Expecting 411 1st first edition Text Only Michele Hakakha Books

I received a lot of books when I was pregnant and this one was the best one, by far. I was looking for a book to ease my worries, not add to them, and the authors struck the perfect tone.

My favorite parts were the tables on routine vs optional tests your doctor could request and the nutrition / vitamins needed in a pregnant woman's diet. Doctors can be so pressed for time and, in my case, they wanted to run every test in the book; but I wanted more of a balanced approach and this book gave me a better overview of them and answered some of my questions better than my doctor.

Chapter titles: First trimester; second trimester; third trimester; Is this normal?; Tests; Nutrition; Environment and your baby; Lifestyles (including exercise, travel, work); Spa treatments (including hair coloring, teeth whitening, hot tubs, etc); Parenthood prep; Breastfeeding; Home stretch; Labor day; Postpartum; Pregnancy 911; The complicated pregnancy; Infections; Advanced maternal age; Preterm labor and babies; Multiples; When it doesn't work.

Expecting 411 1st first edition Text Only Michele Hakakha Books Reviews

Even though i am pretty sure what i am going through is normal it is always nice to be able to find a trusted source to verify that information. Example on nausea it goes over what the negatives are to look for on your symptom so you know when to call the doctor or what you can do at home to help yourself.
This was the only book my OB/GYN recommended I get. It's written by two doctors, but easy to read and down right funny in places. It's not sappy and overly-sentimental, like other baby books I've read. It also has great advice on what's "normal" and what symptoms are warning signs you should be aware of. Wish I had ordered it for my first pregnancy.
This book has a TON of information in it. It's much thicker than the pictures indicate. I found this to be the perfect intermediate book. It's not too cute, but also isn't too technical. This has been the book I've turned to when I need to fill the gap of missing information in other books or websites. I found the layout is similar those "uncle johns bathroom reader" where you can open up anywhere and read something useful. Just don't forget it in the bathroom during a gathering if you haven't revealed to your family yet.
I have loved this book. The contents are SUPER easy to read and you can pretty much find any question you have. It does not have any "fluff" or jargon that can be overwhelming. Just good basic information with some personal information from writers injected throughout. Honestly, I recommend buying all three books together. The Baby Bargains book, the Expecting, and then Baby 411. They're great. Although the size and shape of book are odd, and can be difficult to hold comfortably. Great book though.
I absolutely loved Baby 411, so when I got pregnant for the second time I saw Expecting 411 and had to have it. It is a wonderful book that gives you all the information about choosing an OB, midwife, etc., as well as what all those tests mean. It also answers all the questions you always forget to ask the doctor when your at your appointments. It is handy for the partners to read as well, to give them some insight into what their partner is going through.

The only thing I would have liked more would have been a more detailed week by week of the pregnancy. They went over all the weeks but was very brief.

Overall, the book is informative and honest as well as handy source of information throughout the entire pregnancy.
This book seems to cover it all. I read it through front-to-back and have continued to reference back to it throughout pregnancy. I love the anecdotes that give depth to the advice and I really like the way it is organized. On controversial topics, it presents all sides of the issue and does a good job of outlining the choice that you have to make as an expectant parent. And it's great at giving you the real scoop without going to into exhaustive or overwhelming detail. I felt that if there was something I wanted to know more about, they gave me the right tools to investigate further. I highly recommend this one!
This book is a pretty easy (but somewhat long) read and very informative answering most of the questions you and/or your spouse may have when expecting. I originally purchased the ebook for this but find it easier to skim or find certain sections in a physical copy so I bought the paperback as well. The diagrams in the ebook are also not as clear (they look "grainy"). Besides this book, i'd recommend getting the latest pregnancy book from the Mayo Clinic because it has more details on certain aspects of pregnancy. For instance, there is more detailed information as to what happens every few weeks along the entire length of pregnancy.

I highly recommend Expecting 411 as a complement to the Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy book.
