First let me start off by saying that I do not own a vast library of ADD/ADHD books, but I do own several of the more highly recommended books here on Amazon. We are also within a year of our child and my husband both being diagnosed with ADHD without hyperactivity, so we are relatively "new" at this. With that being said, I felt comfortable giving this book a five star rating based on my experience.Right away one of the things I really liked about this book was that it jumped right in with suggestions. Unlike most books I've read that don't get into the actual strategies until a couple of chapters in, this book starts giving tools and strategies on page 1. In my opinion, I believe the author writes the book with the assumption that the parent has already versed themselves on what ADHD is, and it is written towards the person who needs an immediate plan. I found many of the suggestions to be immediately helpful, and while they are probably not groundbreaking, many were things that I had failed to come up with on my own. With this book you can literally hit the ground running. I implemented several suggestions for homework immediately because they were things I could do on the spot. I also appreciated the tips on how to help study for math tests and the different types of intelligence. As soon as I read the description of the "picture smart" child, I knew that was my son immediately. Because of this, I know how to better help him study that will keep in focused and interested.
My only complaint about the book were some of the suggestions for at school. Frankly, I could not see my son's 3rd grade teacher implementing most of them. For the record, I have not asked her...so I am making an assumption. I plan on emailing her today about the book and some of the at school suggestions and see what she says. She is an open, excellent teacher who has already done wonders for my son, so she may surprise me. It wasn't enough to take away from my rating...nothing ventured, nothing gained.
I certainly recommend this book to other parents like me who are relatively new to the ADHD diagnosis, but have an understanding about the disorder; someone who is ready to jump in and implement a plan and doesn't need several chapters of study, instruction, or theory.

Getting Your ADHD Child to the Aha! Moment Effective School and Homework Strategies eBook Sharlene Alexander Reviews
The book is mainly tips and tricks, not necessarily a comprehensive guide to helping a child with ADHD learn. Many of these tips are intuitive for parents of children with ADHD.
Nothing new was presented in this book. I didn't gain knowledge, but lost a couple bucks. May be good for a first time adhd parent.
Homework is such a battle and has been since he began school. Now that I have read about these new techniques, I am hopeful that we can make a change for the positive. One week of trying has already made a difference. Thank you.
As a parent of an ADHD child who I know isn't reaching anything close to his full potential I've naturally bought and countless books on the subject - just about everything I can get my hands on in fact. This book was a decent read and covered a lot of the basics well but I feel it would have benefitted from going into greater detail like some of the books on the exact same topic such as the Parenting ADD/ADHD Childrenby Elizabeth Miles or even to a lesser extent some of the work of Douglas Puryear. That being said, if you're just getting to grips with the topic of ADHD and don't want to go into detail at the beginning then this is well written and as good a place as any to start.
Awesome book all parents should have this if there child has been diagnosed with adhd
ADHD is different for different children, but there was great information here, especially in areas of dealing with homework and behavior complications. It describes a reward system similar to the one I recently implemented. My child is also Dyslexic so there were several strategies I will not be using, but I am glad I read this book.
